With the development of aerospace technology and satellite sensors, remotesensing technology gets more and more attention, the applications of remote sensingare constantly expanding. And the improving resolution of remote sensing imageleads geometrically surge of remote sensing image data. Therefore, how tocalculateand store these growing mass remote sensing image data, and on this basis,to provide efficient computing services has become aproblem which urgently need tosolve.With the development of computer technology, the birth of cloud computingprovides a solution for the large amount of data storage and computing. Cloudcomputing has not been given an official concept, but generally agreed that it is themixedresult of the development of the network technology and a variety of computertechnologies, including distributed computing, parallel computing and utilitycomputing. Cloud computing can gather resources to achieve large-scale computingpower and it has the advantage of scalability, ultra-large-scale, reliability, highavailability, low-cost economy and so on.So it can be used as an efficient solution tolarge amounts of remote sensing image data processing and management.This paper sums up the critical theory of cloud computing, workflow and SOA,and explores how to use the computing power and storage capacity of the cloudcomputing to achieve a large number of remote sensing images’ shared storage andfast batch parallel processingbased on the study of cloud computing combined withremote sensing. This paper focuses on the two workflow engine: BPEL and PlatformPM.On this basis, I achieve a prototypesystem design and implementation of remotesensing business process to provide efficient computing services, storage services, andprocess management services of remote sensing image. Finally, the calculationfromNDVI to VCI is used as an example of the simple process for the Platform test.Research results show thatthe workflow system prototypeimplemented by thetwo kinds of workflow engine which isBPEL and Platform PM can efficiently handle calculation and management of mass remote sensing image data. That reflectsthatcloud computing has high performance computing power and the ability toco-processing of remote sensing images. This paperis to provide a reference model forcloud computing used inthe application of remote sensing.
