Rockfall hazards, one kind of geo-hazards in mountains of southwest China,often happens on the high-steep rock slope, which causes casualties and enormous losses every year. With the rapid development of high speed railways and the higher frequency of rockfall hazards, the study on movement characteristics and protection work design of Rocfalls has been receiving more and more attention. But there are many problems that remain to be study and to be solved because of the complexity influencing factors of rockfall.Based on the significant science and technology research project of Ministry of Railway-Control and alarm System of security transport(2010G018-E-4),the rockfall on the rock slope are chosen as research object. Theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and the laboratory model test are both conducted in research. The movement characteristics, influencing factors and protection work are the chief contents. Following results have been carried out:1.Rockfall model are established via RocFall software. Based on orthogonal experimental theories, the sensitive analysis of influencing factors are performed. The main conclusions are drew as-followed:The slope angle and the coefficient of tangential restitution are the main influential factors of the horizontal movement distance, and meanwhile the height of slope and the horizontal velocity are following; The slope angle are the primary influential factors of energy,when the slope type and the coefficient of tangential restitution are the next factors; the slope type is the chief factors.2.Cutting slope on the Guizhou-Guangzhou railway and the slope(K307+550)on the Guizhou-liuzhou railway were used as prototype. The influence of shape and size of rock and the transverse distance ratio were analyzed when the form of movement was observed. The following conclusions are obtained:the effects of size are more significant than the shape of rock. Meanwhile, the ability of movement of globular and blocky rock are better than strip and flaked rock. The transverse distance ratio are given a suggested coefficient:0.4.3. With the case of the slope on the chengdu-lanzhou railway,the method of choosing the proper position for protection work,the height and the extent were explored, based on above conclusions and the presented protective technology.
