In the production process, photonic crystal devices will be influenced by defects inevitably, in the packaging and employment, they will be affected by the outside pressure and result in deformation, both of them are called disorder. Disorder can affect the optical properties of the photonic crystal structure. The presence of total reflection band is more universal than the existence of photonic band gap, for a photonic crystal structure without band gap, light propagates through the waveguide channels by total reflection bands. In this paper, we discuss disorder influence on two-dimensional photonic crystal and waveguide, and the total reflection phenomenon by using the finite element method, and the main contents are:(1) Discuss the position disorder, size disorder and deformation influence on two-dimensional square lattice photonic crystal TE mode transmittance. Generally speaking, a larger disorder influences photonic crystal performance more. Transversal and longitudinal disorder influence photonic crystal optical properties almost the same, photonic crystal optical properties are more sensitive to size disordered than to size disorder.(2) Discuss the position disorder, size disorder and deformation influence on two-dimensional square lattice photonic crystal waveguide TE mode transmittance and guided bands. Longitudinal position disorder and longitudinal deformation influence the optical properties more than transversal position disorder and transversal deformation does, structure optical properties are more influenced by size disorder than by longitudinal position disorder and longitudinal deformation. (3) Study the total reflection in a two-dimensional square lattice photonic crystal with elliptical holes and the corresponding photonic crystal waveguide. For photonic crystal without band gap, light propagate through along the defect channel by total reflection transmission, and, achieve nondestructive transmission through a90degrees bend waveguide.
