The marine volcanic massive sulfide deposits(VHMS) are important sources ofcopper, lead, zinc and other kind of metals. VHMS deposits, whose ore materialsmainly come from volcanic activities or magmatic hydrothermal activities, are formedat the bottom of the sea. With the development of deeper exploration of the crust,economical, efficient and detailed geophysical methods are apparently indispensablefor achieving prospecting tasks. However, electrical prospecting for such VHMSdeposits is very advantageous.Obviously, the prerequisite for conducting electrical method is the exhaustivestudy of electrical differences between different rocks and minerals in working areas,which includes both the electrical differences and the polarization rate differences.The gepphysical properties of rocks not only reflect geological and weatherconditions in which they are formed, but also are the essential foundation ofgeophysical field work and geological interpretation.The Caihuagou-type marine volcanic massive sulphide copper deposits havegood prospecting for part of the structure belts in Xinjiang,for the sake of that theirsulphides have strong reflections in electrochemical and in particular the polarizationefficiency. Consequently, the study of geophysical properties of Caihuagoupolymetallic deposit has a far-reaching significance. After acquisiting and preliminaryprocessing of electrical data of rocks, statistical analysis can reveal electricaldistributions of rocks and the main influencing factors. Combing the geologicalcharacteristics of the study area and the results of statistical analysis to analyze thechanges of electrical characteristics in space, we get a better overview of geophysicalsurveies and abnormal interpretations.This paper uses WDYX-rock sample test signal source and GDD IP receiver toacquisite electrical data of rocks indoors. After statistical and correlation analysis ofelectrical features(mainly resistivity and polarization)of different lithologies that are picked from the deposit,surrounding rocks, and rocks on the earth surface, the papercompares the data with geological features,and thereby discusses the necessary andfeasibility of electrical work in the area,further indicating its advantages anddisadvantages. Considering previous geophysical work experience,petrophysicalstudy is not only a cost-effective solution to geology and mineral problems, but alsocan effectively reduce the ambiguity of anomalies before conducting geophysicalwork.
