The magnetic levitation linear motion is a new non-contact motion type which has the advantages of contact-free, wear-free, low power consumption and long life. It has broad application prospects, especially in the vacuum, high speed, ultra quiet room and other special environment. The magnetic levitation technology is related to electromagnetics, control theory, mechanics, computer science and other disciplines which has the property of nonlinearity, strong coupling. How to design and optimize the structure of the magnetic levitation linear motion platform is the basis of the system’s stable operation, so the research about this problem has very high theoretical significance and practical value.This paper built a new type of single degree of freedom magnetic levitation linear motion platform which could move along the long straight rail. Firstly, this paper introduced the basic principle of the single degree of freedom magnetic suspension system and built its electromagnetic force mathematical model which could be applied to the engineering practice. Secondly, this paper proposed the double side control model to meet the system’s requirements. Meanwhile, the paper chose right materials and designed reasonable structural parameters for the magnetic levitation linear motion platform. Besides, the paper checked the system’s heat dissipation ability, mechanical strength and permeability. Thirdly, in order to ensure the safety and the stable operation of the system, this paper designed the protection system. At the same time, the paper proposed the effective solutions to overcome the magnetic short circuit problem through system’s structure design. Lastly, the paper analysed the model’s bearing capacity and magnetic field distribution through Ansoft finite element method. Accroding to analysing the pole’s arrangement form and model’s smoothing processing, the experiment platform was built finally. Through the simulation and experiment, the design of the system is accurate, the system’s stable capability can be guaranteed when it is subjected to lateral and vertical disturbance.This paper built a new and reasonable magnetic levitation linear motion platform through the research of system’s structure design. The paper has important reference value for the further research.
