The biospeckle is a phenomenon generated by laser light scattering in biological tissues or surfaces. The shape and intensity of speckle pattern vary with time, and this variance is believed to have relation with the biological activity of the sample. Hence, as a new measuring technology, biospeckle has been paid more and more attention. It is applied widely in the areas of biomedicine and agriculture due to its advantages such as whole field measuring, non-contacting, real time, qualitative and quantitative measuring, etc. The main works of this paper are as follows:1) The reflecting and transmitting biospeckle measuring systems have been built, which feasibility have been demonstrated by two experiments,"the relation between the activity and biospeckle pattern of the seed", and "the variance of biospeckle pattern during the heating process of protein degeneration".2) Five algorithms of image processing have been made, including Laser Speckle Contrast Analysis (LASCA), Generalized Differences (GD), Fujii, Temporal Contrast (TC), Inertia Moment (IM). The two experimental results have been processed with these algorithms.The study shows that biospeckle technology is an effective tool to measure both the activity and water content of seed and the heating process of the degeneration of protein in real time. This technology is therefore a new important measuring method in the fields of agriculture and biomedicine.
