This paper researched Hongshan Culture via GIS. The main content isdevoted to seeking the regularity of sites distributing, coupled with someunearthed sites data for further discussion. The macro research mainlyregarded each Hongshan culture site as a point so as to study the distributionof them throughout the northeast China. Afterwards, the author also utilizedsingle-site materials to supplement and explain, aiming at achieving a deeperunderstanding of Hongshan culture. The first chapter summarized the research process about Hongshanculture and later introduced the application of GIS in archaeology, includingthree aspects: the macro aspect, micro aspect and site resources domain. Inview of the research on Hongshan culture having been relatively mature, wecan carry on comprehensive analysis on it.The second chapter mainly studied the distribution of Hongshan sites andstated a detailed interpretation combined with the sites data. The first partintroduced the source of material and the basic process of map-making. Thesecond part introduced the regularity of the site distribution of Hongshanculture in detail from six aspects, including site level analysis, site elevationanalysis, site topography analysis, analysis of relation with site distribution andsoil, slope, slope direction and stream buffer. Through the analysis, we canpreliminarily reveal the rule of the site distribution of Hongshan culture: theyvary in size and distribute on plains, valleys and hills. Their slope is generallysmall, and the surrounding soil is suitable for farming. They are influenced bygeologic activity and there is a little long distance from the sites to thepresent river. The third chapter, combined with the previous research results, summarizes the regularity of the site distribution of Hongshan culture. Then itdescribes the social overall status of Hongshan culture based on the previous research conclusion.
