Neutron tube, which has a controlled switch, is a kind of neutron source, and hasmany advantages that natural neutron source cannot compared with, such as the unityof energy, the neutron yield could be controlled, DC/pulse controller. Theseadvantages make the neutron tube unparalleled irreplaceable in modern industrial andscientific fields.Institute of Radiation Technology of Northeast Normal University has researchedand developed the neutron tube and related technologies for over40years, and hasbeen the leading domestic level. At the same time, a neutron tube they developed, onthe yield or lifetime, is in a world-class status. Especially, they have a specialcontribution to the miniaturization of the neutron tube. Now, the Institute of RadiationTechnology has been successfully developed in diameter, respectively, for50mm,48mm,25mm neutron tubes, which have a wide range of applications in the field ofindustrial and scientific.During the past two years, the Radiation Technology Institute has developed astable performance of the DC/pulse neutron generator. This generator can not onlyprovide continuous neutron, but also provides a pulsed neutron. Pulse frequency is ofa wide range, the minimum pulse width, pulse shape stability, has been unanimouslyapproved by many research institutes and relevant enterprises.Institute of Radiation technology developed many kinds of neutron tubes, but theion source has been using a Penning ion source design. In this paper, I will investigatethe discharge characteristics of Penning ion source of Ф48neutron tube, such as DCdischarge characteristics and pulse discharge characteristics,which will have a deepinfluence for the next generation of neutron generator. And as a reflection of pastcustomers, the neutron tube has "inflection point" phenomenon. In this paper, I willexplore the laws of this phenomenon. I will sum up the law through experiment, as aresult to make other researchers clearly about the discharge characteristics of theneutron tube. In the last part of the paper, I will design the experiment of a graduateexperimental course based on my experiment. The purpose is to enable studentsstudying in the Radiation Technology Institute could learn how to use the neutron generator faster and have a deep understanding of the work area of the neutrongenerator. |
