The Loess Plateau is one of the areas where geological hazard frequently occurs. and thedeformation damage of the loess slope is a unique and common geological hazard in loessPlateau. However,in Loess Plateau, the the loess cave is closely related to many land fall、slump and well-small landslides.The slump destruction of loess slope flows the developmentof loess cave. And this phenomenon is particularly prevalent in Loess Plateau where the loesscave is widely distributed. Therefore it has very important theoretical and practicalsignificance to carry out the failure mechanism of loess slope in the cave environment. Thispaper is based on the previous studies and with support of the National Natural ScienceFoundation “study on the slump mechanism of loess slopes in cave sub-erosion environment”,and further study the failure mechanism of loess slope in the cave environment.First, based on collecting and arrange the loess slope information in the cave environmentby many field investigations. Then find out the development characteristics and spatialcombination of fracture-cave system in loess slope,by collecting materials of natural loessslope which is typical and potentially hazardous with the methods and means of fieldreconnaissance、cave system investigations、Luoyang spade exploring、engineering geologicalmapping etc,the cave environment of breeding loess slope failure is classified. the type andmodel of the development and evolution are summarized and generalization based in the caveenvironment of loess slope, according to the internal features of the different caveenvironment and inversing it’s process of formation、development and evolution.Secondly, to reveal the inherent mechanism of loess slope failure by showing the wholeprocess of the loess slopes failure in the cave sub-erosion environment with field test which isexpanded in natural loess slope of cave development,and monitoring the change ofdisplacement field in process of the slope failureFinally, build geological models of the loess slope in the different cave environment,optimize the material, and reasonably determine the boundary and initial conditions of themodel, then simulate the stress and strain distribution of loess slope in cave environment bythe midas-GTS finite element analysis software. And use its multi-field coupling module tosimulate the process of loess slope failure in coupled conditions of seepage and stress fields.Study on the failure mechanism of loess slope from the view of numerical calculation.
