| In1987, the concept of photonic crystal was put forward, as a periodic distribution of the material dielectric constant. This paper starts in-depth research of1D and2D photonic crystal and its application. In theory, we research on the development of photonic crystals, applications, and research methods, and preparation processes carried out in detail. Used the Finite-Difference Time-Domain(FDTD)method, we analyzed the ordinary1D photonic crystal band structures. In the experiment, we provide a composite cavity model, which consists of two cavities and a connecting waveguide, to investigate the optical bistable switching in air-hole-type photonic crystals (PhCs) by the time domain coupled-mode theory. The switching behaviors come from the nonlinearity of the connecting waveguide that is different from those in rod-type PhCs that originate from the nonlinearity of the rod defect cavity. Using the theoretical analysis, the optical bistable switching in2D air-hole type triangular lattice PhCs is modeled and the switching properties are also studied by using the finite-difference time-domain method. |
