Waves is a common and important phenomena in the ocean, the research aboutits has made significant progress since the rise of the1940s. With the economic andtechnological development and with the international situation changing, the researchof waves has a very important value on the maritime economic and military activities. Many of its research results has constitute a part of the dynamical oceanography, andit closely relate with many other areas of the upper ocean dynamics, ocean remotesensing and marine engineering. The research about waves generally is divided intotwo ways. It is the dynamics and statistics. Often the two methods in actual research.Waves is as a random in the study and can be regarded as a random process, eitherfrom the internal structure of the waves-the wave spectrum is described, but alsorealized from the waves of external characteristics-the statistical distribution of thewave elements are described. The research of the statistical distribution of waveelements is the core problems of research about random waves, this method isdescribed from the appearance of the random nature of the waves, so it is greatconcern in the engineering applications of the waves. Since the mid-1980s, due to therapid development of marine satellite remote sensing technology, the associated waveelements of the statistical distribution of a larger development.Zhang, Xu (2005) derived a new the maximum entropy probability densityfunction based the maximum entropy principle. Based the thinking, the paper derive anon-Rayleigh distribution of wave period, and then using the wave period ofobservational data fit this distribution, experimental results show a good degree offitting the measured data distribution. For a long time, the study of wave elements is about study of single variables, such as wave height, wavelength, wave period and more. And have made a lot ofresults. But study of the joint distribution for multivariate is less. and the results ofthese have derived in the conditions as wave is normal process and narrow spectrum,so the research has some limitations on the waves. This paper construct a new joint distribution function about wave height andwave period using a Copula function, this joint distribution’s marginal distribution isthe maximum entropy distribution of wave height and period of maximum entropydistribution, This distribution function is a new non-linear, and it’s derived is not inthe conditions of normal process and narrow-spectrum. It reflects the uncertainty ofthe wave elements in the physical sense. And then using observational data test thejoint distribution and be compared with the previous ways. The results show that thisdistribution function fits well with the observational data.
