Ocean observation is the basis of the ocean development, ocean utilization,ocean environmental protection and disaster prevention and reduction. Among theocean automatic observation techniques, the automatic acquisition technology ofocean environment parameters plays a very important role. It is the basic means ofaccess to the ocean environmental data. Therefore, it is important for the ocean observationto develop a data acquisition platform which is low power consumption, small size, highperformance, flexible soft and hardware expansion.And it is suitable for observing oceanenvironment.According to the requirement of GB/T14914-2006<the specification foroffshore observations>, the main function of the hydrometeorological data acquisitionsystem based on ARM (Advanced RISC Machines) is long-term, continuous andautomatic to observe the hydrological and meteorological elements in real time. Thefeatures of the system are: small size, low power consumption, flexible integration,versatile and so.Firstly,the overall demand of the data acquisition system is analyzed. Then thescheme of the whole system is designed. Last, a suitable acquisition platform isselected and the entire system is constructed. On the hardware design, according tothe low-power consumption design principle, the embedded UC-7408which isproduced by the MOXA Corporation with the ARM kernel is selected as thedevelopment platform. It combines with the single-chip platform, and is designed tocollect and handle multiple sensor signals. Software development is the focus of thispaper, the Linux system is used as the software development platform, and the Clanguage is used as the development language. On the software design,according tothe characteristics of the hydrometeorological data acquisition system and theprinciple for the modular design, the system is divided into nine modules, i.e. thedrive module, initialization module, data acquisition module, data processing module, data display module, data storage module, data communication module, parametersetting module and command analysis module. The driver program for the serial,network, and digital I/O of the acquisition system is firstly written. Then each modulewill be researched and developed. And the driver module, data processing andcommand analysis module is the main work of the software design.Based on the testing for ocean hydrometeorological automatic observationsystem based on ARM, the experimental results show that the system has achieved thedesign requirements with low power consumption, high reliability and flexibleintegration.
