Abstract/Summary:
Family planning decision is an important factor related to the China’s population strategy, and the sustainable development of society. In the past 30 years of reform and opening up, as China’s basic state policy, the family planning policy controlled the rapid increase of population and created an unprecedented opportunity for economic and social development. At the same time, it will have negative effects to economic development and society stability because of the imbalance of population structure, and the continuous decline of total fertility rate. In the context, discussions about is it necessary to adjust the family planning policy is more and more fierce. Facing this situation, and combined with domestic current research about fertility will and fertility behavior, this paper use 1991 to 2009 time series data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey and Poisson Regression, attempting to study the macroscopic and microscopic influencing factors of the family planning decisions, so as to get the internal cause and the change trend of the fertility rate in China, and provide some enlightenments with the future policy making. Firstly, this paper analyzed the trend and current situation of China’s population and total fertility rate, and then discussed the influencing factors of family planning decision making from macro, meso and micro perspective. Take example by the fertility behavior research of new home economics, this paper empirically analyzed the influencing factors of number preference and birth age of family planning decision making from the community factors, family factors and individual factors respectively. Research shows the following conclusions:(1) The number preference of children is significantly influenced by the external macro environment such as the community’s urbanization level. (2) Housing and time allocation have become the important factors of the fertility conception and fertility behaviors. (3) Different from previous research, the study found that women’s individual factors have shown more and more notable effects. (4) Family planning policy have significant effects to the family birth behavior, and under the influence, the actual birth age delayed 1.439 years to urban families and delayed 2.3 years to rural families.
