logging is an advanced technology which can display the information of underneath formation inthe form of2-D image vividly, so it has been wide applied in the fractual formation evaluation.The paper is mainly about method study of fracture recognition and extraction as well as fractureparameters calculation based on FMI image.The fracture recognition part mainly introduces methods to recognize fracture from differentperspective such as traditional logging, image logging and ant colony clustering algorithm. Thelogging response of different curves has been established and the equations of calculate theprobability of fracture has been given out in the paper. How to recognize fracture with ant colonyclustering algorithm has been detailed discussed.The fracture extraction part mainly introduced the method of ant colony algorithm combinewith digital image processing technology such as edge detecting method to detect fractures onFMI image. The paper analyzed the basic principle of ant colony algorithm, put forword theimproved algorithm of ant colony edge detecting, the influence degree of the parameters has alsobeen evaluated.The parameter calculate part mainly introduced the equations of calculate fracture parameterssuch as the width, density, porosity quantitatively. The HOUGH transform is used to calculate thedip angle and height of the fracture recognized from the FMI image, porosity spectrum from FMIdata is also uesd to evaluate fractual formation.Simultaneously, programs used in the paper are written with matlab codes. The actual FMIdata from the fractural formation of the volcanic reservior in the south of Songliao Basin has beenprocessed and the effect of fracture recognition and extraction has been evaluated, the method isproven effective.
