Vegetation is considered as one of the main parts of the terrestrial ecosystem, it provides important resources for the economic activities of human society at every moment. Although the climate factor is the decisive factor of the vegetation distribution, but human activities also have influence on the regional vegetation development and succession, especially in a relatively short time scales, the human effect is more obvious.lt is due to the vegetation plays an important role in environmental protection, water and soil conservation, energy supply, it is necessary for us to master the vegetation coverage, growth and change in the severe soil and water loss in the arid area more comprehensive and clear.This area is located at the junction of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Shaanxi province and one river of the middle reaches of the Yellow River which named Kuye River. On the basis of collecting, summarizing the domestic and foreign research results, using RS and GIS technology,put1979in August,1989in August,1996in June,2006in September,2010in October five stage images as data source,to calculate the Kuye River Basin vegetation coverage,change and do the driving force factor analysis from1978to2010.From the Kuye River Basin vegetation coverage change and driving force factor analysis,this article draws the following conclusions:First, from the whole,vegetation coverage in0-0.4sparse vegetation cover and0.4-0.6low vegetation cover take the most part of the study area,these two kinds of density distribution accounts about94.5%of the total area,and in the last30years,the high density vegetation covered area changes not very big, this is the typical vegetation cover of the agricultural pastoral ecotone.Second,study the relationship between vegetation coverage and driving force factors using Pearson correlation coefficient,reach influence degree of seven factors on vegetation coverage change respectively,namely,from the whole,the influence of human factors is greater than the natural factors.Third,seven driving factors were optimized by using the principal component analysis method, the optimized model includes constant in addition to GDP value, building land area and water area, and do the precision evaluation after optimal the model, the precision is0.854.This article’s features:using Pearson correlation coefficient to evaluate the relationship between the driving force factor and vegetation coverage in quantity, do quantification the influence degree of driving force factors to the vegetation coverage,the model is optimized by using the principal components analysis method on driving factors and vegetation coverage.
