Electricity plays a vital role in people’s lives,so it is very important to ensure theoperation of the power system safe and stable. The power transmission is part of thepower system, and inspecting transmission lines and equipments is an effective way toensure its normal operation. With reform of the electricity system and expansion of thegrid scale, many flaws and shortcomings of the traditional inspection methods haveexposed, including not in place of inspection, not timely, backward modes of inspection, low work efficiency and so on.The background of this subject is transmission inspection, and the system oftransmission inspection based on GPS is researched and designed.According to theneeds of the power transmission inspection, the Global Positioning System (GPS), theGeographic Information System (GIS) and Pocket PC (PDA) are used in combination. There is no need to install any equipment on the tower to ensure the rate of patrolmembers in place.Without arriving the inspection sites, managers can inquiry andmonitor situations of the patrol members. All those make it possible to realize anelectronic, information and intelligent line inspection system.Main functions of the terminal handset are embedded in the GIS interface,on whichthe terminal program of line inspection runs. The background management is aGIS-based information management platform,to achieve a variety of managementfunctions.GPS receivers communicate with PDA through the serial port, terminalhandset communicates with the background management system via GPRS,and by WebService, mobile databases communicate with back-end databases for data synchroniz-ation.The accuracy of GPS positioning determines patrol members to arrive at inspectionlocations timely and accurately.Pseudo-range differential is used to improve theaccuracy of GPS positioning while real-time differential approach is used to navigateand monitor patrol members timly. Results of this system show that, the system of patrol inspection on transmissionline based on GPS can provide complete solutions of power grid equipment inspectionand supervise situations of inspection, which can meet the requirements of design.
