An Empirical Study On The Determinants Of Carbon Accounting Information Disclosure By Chinese Listed Companies

The global climate warming in recent years has aroused the appealing for the construction of low-carbon economy in the whole society, and the carbon disclosure and carbon accounting information disclosure has the attention. This paper focuses on the carbon accounting information disclosure under the low-carbon economy, to find out the determinants of the disclosure. Based on the now-existing researches and the settled standards, we get341sample companies from Shenzhen and Shanghai Stock Exchange. We firstly use the descriptive statistical analysis to find out the state quo of disclosure by industry type and years respectively. Then we consider the influence of the industry type, company size, governance structure, business performance, development ability and the debt level on the carbon accounting information disclosure of the listed companies. It turns out that the overall level of carbon accounting information disclosure is low, but shows an increasing trend. And there's obvious difference between different industries: the heavy polluting industry's is general higher than the non-heavy polluting industry. Besides, the result also shows that the factors such as the industry type, the size, the management ownership and the debt level are positively related with the disclosure level, while the development rate is negative related. It also indicates the governance structure of listed companies is not good enough to supervise the information disclosure. Based on these, we put forward some suggestion from the view of policy, to promote the disclosure level and the development of low-carbon economy.
