In the development of knowledge economy and information era, the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) is in urgent need to change its development bottleneck and management model through information technology so as to develop itself rapidly. And Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project is an important part of information construction in SME. Therefore, a growing number of small and medium enterprises have decided to implement the ERP software to cope with the external pressures and opportunities. But the success rate of ERP implementation is not very high. An important reason for this is that companies usually fail to choose the right software suppliers which can satisfy all their needs. Thus, it causes them to fall behind other companies in information construction."A good beginning is half done". Choosing the right software is a guarantee for the successful implementation later. As the theoretical guide and experience for SME ERP selection are still not enough, it is necessary to study this subject deeply so that the SMEs can construct and develop ERP projects better.Based on literature study, the needs for ERP selection in SMEs were analyzed in detail in this paper. According to the characteristics of ERP selection in SMEs. a set of procedures was proposed. In formal selection, a two-filter model, Grey Relation Decision Model and Analytic Network Process Model, was given. In the first step, some simple questionnaires were done to get the key quantitative indicators. Then. GRD model was used to analyze the raw data, with the key quantitative indicators in the selection model acting as the rigid condition to filter a number of softwares.In the second step, more indicators of SME characteristics were included in the Analytic Network Process Model. In ANP model, the relationship between elements and clusters was fully considered and a more comprehensive pair-wise comparison was done to determine their relations. All the process above can be done in the Super-Decision software to get the ideal results and output.Finally, in the example of P Company, the appropriate ERP software and its supplier were found by using the selection steps and models proposed in this paper. And the feasibility and value of SME ERP election model in this paper is verified, which helps to provide some valuable reference to theory and practice.
