With economic globalization and information technology development,"Polycentric Urban Region"is the basic form of spatial pattern of the city alliances in developed countries. The multi-center urban districts enhance the competitiveness of the city group. As the leader of economic development in China and the World's sixth metropolitan area, the Yangtze River Delta also has the multi-center trend. For Shanghai, the most developed city of this area will continue playing an important role in the Yangtze River Delta. What's more, Nanjing and Hangzhou, as the wings of the north and south, will strengthen the connection of cities around them, optimize the spatial structure and enhance the competitiveness of the Yangtze River Delta. In this paper, we simply certify that the Yangtze River Delta is turning into a multi-center validation in the first place. Secondly we put Nanjing and Hangzhou into Nanjing and Hangzhou metropolitan urban economic circles to analyze their functions as the centers of the north and south in the Yangtze River Delta. Then we analyze the development of both cities in two aspects: the progress and the defect. Finally, with urban group expansion, large-scale inter-city rail traffic operation and the national strategy backgrounds, we indicate that the development of the sub-central cities would promote the integration process of the Yangtze River Delta, as well as bring out some problems. On the basis of the earlier research, we make relevant policy recommendations.
