The Development Of Tourism Industry In Ecuador

Tourism is one of the biggest industries around the world nowadays. In the past, tourism was considered as recreation, not as a source of income, or even a big industry that would help the GDP increase or decrease. But as the globalization process keeps on advancing, and the world becomes smaller between the nations, the wish of going to different countries, to learn about different cultures, try different food, listen to different languages, made the governments realize that it is important to consider tourism important inside their sources of income.Ecuador has also become part of the countries that are working hardly on the improvement of the industry of tourism. But it has taken more than 10 years to the government to realize that it is important to establish a Ministry that will work with the private sector in order to develop the tourism industry.Nowadays, the government is prioritizing tourism as one of the main industries, and it has set up a strategic plan that is called"Plandetur 2020". It is a plan that started to be executed last year and its objectives will be achieved in the year 2020.The Ministry of Tourism is now setting up innovative strategies such as sustainable tourism, communitarian tourism, and ecotourism. Ecuador is one of the countries with the biggest biodiversity countries around the world, very rich in its nationalities; therefore the tourists want to visit it to learn more about every each of them. The Ministry is also working together with the Ministry of Public Works to improve the access to the remote areas, improving the quality of highways, improving the system of sewage, and electricity.This study attempts to show the challenges that the Tourism Industry with the Ministry of Tourism has to face in order to become the first income of the GDP in Ecuador. This study shows some of the plans that have already been executed, and some that are in the process of being applied in the country nowadays. Moreover, this thesis seeks to find some recommendations and conclusion for the Ministry in order to keep the good work until now shown.
