With the development of information technology and the promotion of smart grid construction, the dependence of electric power infrastructure (physical field) on information infrastructure (information field) is increasingly significant. The network security of power system has gradually become a hot spot issue which calls both domestic and foreign attention, and then the research of power system cascading failures caused by network security has emerged. Compared to conventional security issues in power system, there are several new characteristics in the network security, such as security threat, cascading process and quantitative consequences, which causes traditional analysis methods cannot be fully applicable. Therefore, this paper aims at the failure in information field caused by network security incident, then focus on the cascading process and internal mechanism in physical field, and takes research on the modeling and simulation methods for power system cascading failures caused by network security, tries to solve following problems.1. Analysis framework of the power system cascading failure caused by network security. First, the influence on the power system caused by network security is discussed. According to the occurrence and mechanism of cascading failure process, the difficult problems such as cascading failures in the information field, the information field—physical filed dependencies, quantitative consequences are analyzed. The modeling and simulation method of power system cascading failure caused by network security are proposed, and then cascading failure process is divided into three stages, which are the cascading failures within information field, cascading failures between information and physical filed, and cascading failures within physical filed.2. Information cascading failure model acting on the primary elements of power system. First, the cyber attack objects, the functions of information infrastructure, network security incidents, primary elements of power system, consequences and three basic cascading models are formally defined. Basis on the above, the information cascading failure model is divided into two types by the differences of the function failure processes, which are security incident—Faction—consequence and security incident—Fmonitor—Faction—consequence. This paper also builds specific information cascading failure model for eight types of security incidents. At last, the general process of model building is summarized.3. Simulation model of cascading failure based on OPA fast dynamic process. In the third stage of cascading failure process, this paper uses the simulation model of cascading failures based on OPA fast dynamic process for reference, and extends its application filed. The occurrence probabilities of consequences of primary elements gained from the cascading failure model in the information field are introduced into the simulation model, which is realized by MATLAB programming.4. The specific application and analysis of the modeling and simulation methods. Based on the IEEE30bus system, the modeling and simulation of the cascading failures caused by eight types of security incidents are carried out using the above method. The results show that the modeling and simulation method can basically reflect the relationship among the types of network security incidents, the occurrence probabilities and the consequences of incidents, and has a certain rationality.
