With the rapid development of computer technology, digital signal processing and video image compression technology, it also led to the digital transformation of the entire chain of television broadcasting industry and the explosive development. Meanwhile, during the product development process and production process, the test is also facing a huge challenge and needs improved methods. Testing of products is simpler, the more efficient, then the shorter production cycle, so the market is greater. The price of test equipments is lower, and then production cost of the product is lower, so market profits are greater. Compared to the commonly used test equipments, they complicate, expensive, professional and cover a few functions of television. And generally, it needs the professional engineer to operate them. And these devices are not suitable to test TVs in factory assembly lines. For these reasons, this paper designs a digital television test system based on the ARM Cortex-A8to meet market demands.This paper firstly introduces the basis of digital television, digital television transmission system, and some special features, such as Teletext and Closed Captioning. Then, it describes the system hardware architecture, system software modules and relations among them. Then, this paper introduces detail the design and implementation of the various modules of this system, including separation of Teletext information and closed captioning, video signal output, and user interface and control interfaces. Then, in order to improve system performance and to system upgrades in future, this paper describe the MPEG-2decoder optimization of FFmpeg in detail. Then after this paper tests and evaluates both of the system's functionalities and performance and verifies the functionalities and performance of this system. Finally, this paper summarizes work contributions and limitations.
