In the world with the development of economic, the demands from community for security are also increasing. Safety and efficiency of prevention are improving significantly with the introduction of high technology. In recent years, video surveillance technology has been improved rapidly and applicaed extensively.What the video surveillance system adopts is to use front-end video capture devices such as camera equipment to capture video. Real-time video is the most basic function of video surveillance system. What the intelligent digital video surveillance system does is to alternative human intervention, extract the various informations from the video and analyze t hem automatically based on the introduction of intelligent analysis. Not only exceeded the limitations of manual monitoring, but also significantly improved the performance and efficiency of video surveillance system. Motion detection is a kind of important detection technology in the intelligent video surveillance analyse technology. What motion detecttion does is to detect and extract the foreground from video sequences which has relative motion related to background. And then split the foreground up into several independent objects. This paper improved the algorithm of motion detection and implemented the algorithm in intelligent digital video surveillance system.In the first chapter this paper expounded the significance of the research on motion detection in intelligent video surveillance system. Chapter two introduced the history of intelligent digital video surveillance system and analysised all the characteristics of the four generations of the system, and also reviewed the research status on this subject all over the world. Chapter three discussed the framework of motion detection algorithm, analyzed the existing three basic motion detection algorithms, proposed temporal difference method based on background subtraction based on the analysis. And improved the algorithm considering changing light. Chapter four presented the system design environment and the framework what the intelligent digital video surveillance system is based on, and then designed the system architecture. Chapter five implemented the motion detection algorithm in intelligent digital video surveillance systems proposed in this paper. Chapter six tested the motion detection algorithm in a variety of different scenarios.And the test result were analyzed and summarized that the algorithm can meet the requirements of practical applications. Chapter seven summarized this whole paper and analyzed the extended research of this paper.
