Synchronization is a prerequisite and decisive factor of proper demodulation for communication signals, and the implementation of synchronization in burst communication is more difficult than that in the conventional communication. Thus the research on the estimation of synchronization parameters is of great theoretical and practical significance.This thesis focuses on the synchronization algorithm in burst communication system. First, this thesis introduces the theories of synchronization. These theories laid the foundation for better research on synchronous algorithms.Then the carrier frequency offset estimation algorithms in time domain and frequency domain are focused on. In the part of time domain, begin with the deduction for maximum likelihood estimation of carrier frequency offset, some more practical algorithms for carrier frequency offset estimation based on the maximum likelihood theory with low complexity are studied. Meanwhile, a algorithm for frequency offset estimation based on differential phase is introduced. What's more, a algorithm for frequency offset estimation which combines low-delay and high-delay autocorrelation function is proposed. This algorithm gives consideration to both capture range and estimation accuracy, at the same time greatly reduces the computational complexity. In the part of frequency domain, three common carrier frequency offset estimation algorithms are deduced, analysed, simulated and compared. A new two-step frequency offset estimation algorithm is proposed, which first uses dichotomous search, then takes advantage of the parabola formed by the maximum amplitude spectrum line and the two on the left and right to estimate interpolatively.Finally two joint algorithms for carrier frequency offset and symbol timing estimation are introduced, and a joint estimation algorithm based on matched filtering technique is proposed.
