As the EW in modern battlefield is increasingly intense, Low Probability of Interception (LPI) radar has become an important research direction in EW. Recently OFDM radar is investigated extensively because of its higher frequency spectrum efficiency, flexible waveform design method and good LPI capacity. This paper focuses on the LPI capability of OFDM radar, signal processing method, high PMEPR problem and waveform design.First of all, the background and development of LPI radar is introduced, and several typical LPI radar signals are discussed and compared. Based on the OFDM technology, the OFDM radar system structure is constructed and the OFDM radar signal's transmitting, receiving and processing are simulated and analyzed. Then, Clipping, Peak Windowing and Peak Cancellation are used to reduce the peak power of OFDM signal and the different influences on OFDM signal are compared. Finally, OFDM radar waveform design method based on the MCPC is discussed in frequency domain. For the IS OFDM signal and the COCS OFDM signal, additional phase angle and amplitude weighting are used to reduce PMEPR, and the autocorrelation function and ambiguity function are analyzed.The high spectrum efficiency and excellent LPI capability of OFDM radar are verified in this paper. The PMEPR of the OFDM radar signal is reduced by limiting the peak power and the waveform design method of OFDM radar is flexible and selectable.
