Metamaterials have been researched for many years. Compared to the traditional media, metamaterials can produce high performance and efficient electrocmagnetic characteristics, so in recent years, it has been widely watched in military and civilian areas. The breakthrough of the research in metamaterials is just like a fresh blood inserted into the scientific world, and made the last century and the beginning of this century full of vigor and vitality.This article is under background of the hot research on metamaterials, did deeper research in the structure and characteristics of metamaterials, based on the previous design and research of meatamaterials, summaried the advantages and disadvantages of various structure, combined with different design theory, and upon the reference of the artificial realization ways of metamaterials, we designed and produced a metamaterial structure which based on the SRR struture and the Rod structure, called closed ring metamaterial structure.Firstly, we did careful study on the characteristics of this closed ring type structure. We studied the magnetic properties of the closed ring metamaterial structure, not only the vision of periodic arrangement of the closed ring structure, but also studied the vision of the random arrangement of the closed ring structure, the experimental results showed that the closed ring structure which 0<μ<1 can get a zero scattering field at a wide frequency. In addition, we also studied the closed loop structure in the position of random arrangement and the characteristics of structure units size with random arrangement, and the results showed that the characteristics of the closed ring structure are not change. This characteristics of the closed ring structure are very useful to absorption and invisibility.Towards the advantages of the closed ring structure, we designed and produced a multilayer closed ring metamaterial absorption structure. The structure with thickness 1.1 mm consists of six close rings which distribute in two metallic layers separated by FR4 substrates. Experimental results show that over 93.3% absorption can be achieved in this metamaterial absorber at multiple frequency bands. Due to the rotational symmetric pattern of the metamaterial, the performance of the absorber is insensitive to the polarization of the incident waves, indicating the superiority of the structure in the application.
