In the field of light and the field of photons, the diffraction limit which was discovered by Abbe in 1873 is a big obstacle and its negative effect is becoming stronger.Then lots of scientists started to research this rule and tried to break it. In this article, I give some introduction of the diffraction limit including the concept and development. And I show my research on this topic in the second half of this article which is mainly about the methods of designing hyperlens with metamaterials to break the diffraction limit and achieve high resolution imaging.Here I propose two ways to design hyperlens with two different metamaterials:The first way is based on the hyperbolic dispersion relationship. Materials with that kind of dispersion can constrain the propagating direction of electromagnetic wave and make the wave propagate in a pretty narrow way. And we can use this kind of materials to fabricate half cylinder-shaped hyperlens which can break the diffraction limit. The S-shaped rings metamaterials can realize the parameters we want. So we designed the hyperlens and make a prototype with this metamaterials. Then the experiment results show this hyperlens has great performance.The second way is similar to the first one but based on the flat oval-shaped dispersion relationship. The effect from materials with this kind of dispersion is almost the same with the former one that is constraining the propagating route of electromagnetic wave. So another half cylinder-shaped hyperlens was designed but this time with closed-rings metamaterials and the experiment results show that it can work for a quite wide frequency band with good performance.
