Harmony search algorithm is a new metaheuristic algorithm. The HS algorithm is simple in concept, few in parameters, and easy in implementation. It has been successfully applied to various optimization problems in computation and engineering fields.Article firstly analyzes the basic principles of harmony search algorithm, and simply explains mathematical description, algorithm parameters and processes of harmony search algorithm, and then described its applications and introduced some other improved HS algorithm.Article proposes a new improved HS algorithm combined with chaos search algorithm, to improve the search performance and exploitation capabilities. And makes a detail analysis about the basic principles of chaos, and introduce its applications.However, the nature of pre-defined constant parameters limits the exploitation of the algorithm. This paper proposes a number of deterministic parameter control rules to fine-tune these parameters individually and dynamically, making Harmony Search a more dynamic algorithm which is able to achieve better results.Finally, Article uses this improved algorithm to optimize the LQR parameter in order to control the 3-DOF helicopter. And the experimenter data shows that the optimize LQR parameter obtain a better performance.
