High-Definition Television Video Encoder (HDTV Encoder) is one of the most important components of display function in Blu-Ray DVD player. HDTV Encoder receives YCbCr video data sent by the previous function module in display sub-system in Blu-Ray DVD player. HDTV Encoder processes input video data under working mode control register setting for achieving performance requirements, and then add the processed video data on active video region in HD video timing format. Otherwise normal active video data, HDTV Encoder also adds Copy Generation Management System information on the output HD video. In this thesis, HDTV encoder's output interface is three-channel analog component interfaces, includes YPbPr component analog video interface and RGB component analog video interface. The output component video from HDTV encoder is sent to DAC (Digital to Analog Converter), then connected to video decoder via three RCA connectors or three BNC connectors.Video signal quality output by HDTV Encoder is controlled by color space conversion, the performance of DAC, video signal bandwidth, video format conversion and so on. The power consumption of HDTV encoder and video DAC is one important part to be considered when design. The area, speed and power are different when HDTV encoder works on system clock domain and output display clock domain.When there is no video decoder connected with video DAC, video DAC can be turned off for saving power. In the current research of HDTV encoder and video DAC, the deep research of this power saving method for video DAC is not found. At the same time, current research of HDTV encoder is almost in display clock domain, rarely in system clock domain. Compared with display clock domain, which performances of HDTV encoder will be effeced when implement HDTV encoder in system clock domain?Based on the two ideas and the factors that influence performances of HDTV encoder, the implementation methods are analyzed and compared to select better methods in this thesis.The main results are as follows: 1. The implementation method for auto video DAC power saving is investigated in detail. Video DAC working mode is controlled by detecting loading connected with it2. Reasearch and compare the area, speed and power consumption of HDTV encoder when it is on system clock domain and output display clock domain. Select one better clock domain to implement HDTV encoder through comparing the various performances.3. Up-sampling filter to reproduce high frequency video signal, progressive to interlace video conversion method, high precision method to implement color space conversion has been researched.4. Copy protection for High-definition video source is researched to be implemented in HDTV Encoder.
