MIMO wireless channels have very complex spatial characteristics, which makes wireless channel modeling a fundamental problem in MIMO communications. In contrast to the Single-Input-Single-Output (SISO) case, there exists mutual coupling between antenna elements in a MIMO system, which has a significant impact on transmission rate and channel capacity. This paper first proposes an equivalent antenna array model which has taken mutual coupling into account, and uses it to analyze power transfer between antenna elements and signal changes. By combining the new array model and the general MIMO channel model, it then puts forward a MIMO channel model that allows us to reveal the influence of antenna mutual coupling on channel mutual information and capacity. Finally the conditions of best mutual coupling for antenna arrays and maximum channel capacity are drawn. |
