With the development of computer technology and communication network, more and more people have been paid more and more attention to the secure of information. Steganography and watermarking are the same, that the secret information embedded to the cover object. But they have a little difference. Steganography is used to the network forensics and covert communication, watermarking make up for the shortcomings of cryptography and digital signature, and has play an important role in the copy control and copyright protection. This paper reviewed the information security and information hiding theory firstly, summarized the principles and implemented the typical algorithms. Secondly, the independent component analysis (ICA) and the noise visibility function (NVF) are introduced. So a algorithm based on noise visibility function and the independent component analysis of steganography was proposed. In the preprocessing stage of secret image, using the noise visibility function to the local characteristics of cover images, using visual quantification to get the preprocessing secret image. According to independent component analysis algorithm, the secret image will be weakened, and then embedded into the cover image. Extraction process does not require the information of cover image to achieve the blind extraction. According to the proposed steganography algorithm, we used image quality, data capacity, robustness and other indicators to test the embedding process and the extraction process. The secret image is the same size as the cover image which is 256-level grayscale image, with a large amount of information. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm has hidden a large amount of information, and maintains the quality of the cover image, so that the balance between invisibility and robustness can be maintained, the quality of extracted watermark image is good.
