In recent years,there are many kinds of ink-jet printers that support multi-level outputspring up in the market. They are evolved rfom high-addressability or suitable design of thepirnt heads,and can control the location of the tiny ink drops to achieve multi-level output inthe same point of the substrate. Multi-level screening software is needed for this kind of printand the multi-level screening algorithm is core of the software module.The existing algorithmsare analyzed and there are proved to be not perfect because of too complex or fastidiousdemand to the hard-wares. Also the wildly received multi-level error diifusion algorithm has anobviously defect that is the pseudo-contour in the middle tones of the image. This paper importthe mathematical morphology to process the haltfone image based on this algorithm,neighborhood growing and compensate by filling pixels are used to clear up the pseudo-contour.It's proved by expeirments that the new algorithms can amend and even remove thepseudo-contour to the degree.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1.Analyze the existing half tone algorithms and research the major reason of thepseudo-contour in the multi-level error diffusion images.2.Import the mathematical morphology to process the images,find out the edges of thepseudo-contour and control the open operation to obtain the accurate edges.3.Use the Matlab software to fix the pseudo-contour of the images by the methods ofneighborhood growing and compensate by filling pixels.4.Adopt the method of hybrid programming with Matlab and Java to implement the model ofFM screening based on multi-color ink-jet printers. And the ESC language are used to dirvethe Epson7880pirnter.Innovations of this paper is mainly reflected in:1.The method import mathematical morphology into the image screening to ifnd out thepseudo-contour is used for the first time.2.The method of neighborhood growing and compensate by filling pixels to fix thepseudo-contour is used for the first time.3.Blocked PSNR is attempted put forward to evaluate the haltfone images and it's proved tobe effective and dependable.The ifx algorithm in this paper can reduce the pseudo-contour to a great extent or evencompletely. Besides, the train of thought can also be a certain experience to solve the otherproblems of half tone images.
