The mass information storage requirements put forward higher demands for the performance of storage system. The high-performance storage system developing becomes a research hotspot of storage technology currently. On the basis of analysis of all kinds of storage system structure and characteristics, the development trend of storage system's performance requirements is summarized. Related research on the scalability, fault tolerance and search performance of storage system has been done. By using the structured P2P network Chord, the distributed storage device nodes in the Internet are structured into P2P storage network to improve the expandability of storage system. And in this storage network, data redundancy mechanism is adopted to make copy backup for data stored into the storage network; through periodic detection repair mechanism, damages to the storage network and user data caused by node failure are reduced, thereby the storage system's fault tolerance is enhanced. Outside P2P storage network architeture, the metadata server is constructed. Through the metadata server and search mechanism based on user group, the search performance of storage system is improved; meanwhile, a search mechanism based on the content retrieval mechanism is proposed to realize user document semantic retrieval. Aiming at the metadata server single-point fault, a metadata server group structure is constructed to improve the reliability. It consists of two metadata servers which can provide service at the same time, and it makes metadata information synchronization through a log mechanism. On the basis of the study above, the prototype storage system is realized. Finally, the prototype system functions were tested, and both the scalability and fault tolerance of the protype system were analyzed; the average search time searching through the metadata server and the Chord search algorithm were tested and compared, verifying the metadata server's quick search efficiency.Note that in the actual application of the prototype system, due to the limitations of experiment, the performance of the system still needs to be further improved.
