With the continuous development of network and digital media technology, the informationized and intelligentized home products have gradually come into our lives. As an intelligent home appliance, Home Information Terminal(HIT) provides all kinds of multimedia services (e.g., video meeting, household security, home entertainment and distance education) through the network. Thus, how to connect with the existing home infrastructure and achieve the maximum compatibility has become an important problem that has to be faced with and solved in HIT. The video encoding module is responsible for the conversion from digital video signals to analog video signals, and provides multiple interfaces to ensure that the back-end equipment can work well and stablely in different situations. As a result, a well-designed video encoding module has become a guarantee for good video display.The thesis has made a complete review of the analog and digital video technologies. Deep analysis of the principle of video encoding module according to the practical needs and characteristics in HIT is also provided. Based on two common digital video interfaces, the thesis has given four hardware solutions for the video encoding module, and selected the most suitable one for HIT system through detailed comparison and analysis. The driver program is designed based on the linux 2.6 device model specification, and it can achieve a good compatibility. Finally, the whole hardware and software solutions have undergone electrical and application testing and achieved good results. The testing results show HIT system can stabely access to the televison terminal and vga device.The solution in this thesis has been successfully applied in HIT products.These ideas and methods can be applied to similar systems, and it can be used as a reference and guide for front-end video capturing.
