With the rapid development of optical fiber communication, the accumulated polarization mode dispersion in the transmission links seriously restricted the evolution of high-speed optical fiber communication systems. In recent years, the adaptive electronic dispersion compensation technology gets widespread concern as its advantages of self-adaption, real-time compensation, the easy integration with the receiver.In this paper, we first described the background and significance of electronic dispersion compensation, along with the research status at home and abroad; then through comparing the optical compensation, optoelectronic compensation and electronic dispersion compensation, we choose the analog equalizer for electronic dispersion compensation; subsequently modeling the feedback equalizer and decision feedback equalizer in the Matlab, these are controlled by the least mean square algorithm and both can be used for both electronic dispersion compensation. Finally based upon SiGe technology with Ft=80GHz,using shunt-series amplifier as delay block,Gilbert variable gain amplifier as a tap to create a electronic dispersion equalizer of 6 delay units and 7 taps,which can work in 10Gb/s. The transversal equalizer has various characteristics such as bandpass, notch, bandreject, and lowpass,so it can effectively mimic the inverse transfer function of dispersive channels in optical communication, then compensate the dispersion.
