The polarizer now widely produced and used was invented by Edwin H. Land in 1940. Polarizer was initially used on the glass of the car to reduce the influence that the lamps of the car across will light the eyes of the driver, then gradually applied in shade sunglasses, photographic film, etc. Currently, the biggest use of the polarizer is on the LCD monitor applications. Polarizer has also played a very important role in other liquid crystal devices.In the field of infrared (IR) liquid crystal devices, infrared polarizer is also a critical component. Two types of infrared polarizers are generally known: crystal prism polarizers, such as the Glan-Thomson prism, and wire grid polarizers. But they are expensive, heavy, and fragile. Polarizer is ordinary cheap plastic, easy to cut, pliability, high, thin and light, the similar characteristics of polarizer can provide a developing direction of the plastic infrared polarizer.This article describes the preparation of plastic infrared polarizer and the work of test results by Cao Yong. He describes the preparation, characterization, and use of plastic infrared polarizers that consist of electrically conductive polyaniline blends with common bulk polymers. It is shown that uniaxially oriented blends of protonated polyaniline in, for example, poly(acrylonitrile) display a polarizing efficiency over the range from 2.5μm to 25μm that matches or surpasses that of commercial wire grid polarizers. This kind of polarizer is similar to H-polarizer. It also is highly dichroic over a wide spectral range from the near infrared through the far infrared. It could be used on the liquid crystal cell bonding with TAC film and pressure-sensitive adhesive. Because flexible, strong, light, smooth and relatively low price, they are suitable for the production of efficient infrared polarizers.The mechanism of the existing visible light polarizer was studied further. From the view of atomic physics and spectroscopy, this paper explains the mechanism of plastic infrared polarizer. Integrating the existing preparation of doped polyaniline, combining with the existing laboratory equipment, the trial feasibility of simple infrared polarizer was demonstrated. This paper has a certain meaning and application of innovative.
