Bearing-only tracking (BOT) is an important part of passive localization, which relies on receiving external radiation signal to accomplish target localization and state estimation. It has been widely used in the fields of early warning, anti-radiation and other fields in complex battlefield environment because of its advantage of concealment. Observability is the most important factor in BOT. Degree of observability badly declines due to low observation accuracy and platform motion at a high observation rate, which degrades the filtering performance. For this case, BOT algorithms at a high observation rate have been discussed in this thesis, which are supported by the requirements of industry and based on the principles of BOT. The results of the researches mainly involve:1. The principles of BOT, including the observability of nonlinear system and the traditional algorithms of nonlinear filtering, have been introduced and analysed. Extended Kalman filter algorithm, unscented Kalman filter algorithm, particle filter algorithm and interactive multiple model algorithm which resolves the target motion uncertainty effectively are simulated.2. According to high observation rate, BOT algorithms are researched and a BOT algorithm based on sliding window n-step forward prediction is proposed. Sliding window n-step forward prediction can augment the interval, enhance the degree of observability efficiently and enhance the stability of the system. So, it improves the performance of BOT filter accuracy and stability at a high observation rate without reducing the data rate.3. According to high observation rate, BOT algorithms based on clutter echo ranging are researched and a algorithm based on slant range measurement is proposed. This algorithm accomplishes the distance between missile and radiation source through clutter echo of active radar and the angle which is measured by passive radar. It can enhance the degree of observability efficiently and improve the performance of filter though integrating the distance into BOT filter at a high observation rate. The proposed algorithm has good accuracy and stability at a high observation rate, and performs efficiently in practice.Compared to traditional algorithms of nonlinear filtering, the proposed algorithms have good accuracy and stability, and are suitable for application at a high observation rate. The proposed algorithms satisfy the requirements in practice. And the proposed algorithms are significant for target localization precisely, accurate state estimation of radiation source and parameters scheduled when active radar works.
