Because of its small optical transmission loss, big transmission capacity, strong anti-interference ability and other characteristics, optical fiber has become a major digital communications transmission medium. With the continuous improvement of network needs and passive optical networks continue to lower the cost, optical networks scale become more and more big. Therefore, optical networks of security and monitoring is particularly important for management and maintenance of the current high-density, high-capacity, high-speed fiber optical networks, in addition to large centralized monitoring system to monitor maintenance, more need to be flexible, lightweight, intelligent portable optical test equipment. This paper Combined with optical fiber attenuation characteristics of the testing technology, application of analog integrated circuit technology, digital circuit technology, power technology and laser technology, proposed and implemented to measure the optical networks loss of multi-functional instrument design. The portable multi-function optical loss test instrument has light source, power meter and optical transceiver functions。This instrument can measure the optical fiber network link attenuation, the measurement accuracy of 0.1dB or less, can also transmit and receive digital voice signals to detect the optical signal transmission quality. The instrument equipped with high-capacity memory card can store test data for more than five thousand entries, and has portable, long battery life, simple operation. Moreover, the Instrument has a strong adaptability to the external environment and anti-interference, suitable for optical network testing and routine maintenance applications.
