Wavelength routed optical network based on wavelength division multiplex is considered the best approach to achieve the future broadband network. For some technical reasons, the available wavelength is limited, which cause a problem of how to using the available resources efficiently. By the research on routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) of all-optical networks, we can utilize network resource efficiently and improve network performance and capacity.For this reason, this thesis does some study on dynamic wavelength and routing assignment in optical network. Proposed an improved algorithm based adaptive routing and first fit algorithm. By the computer simulation, proved the improved algorithm has best performance on average blocking probability. The flowing show the main work of this thesis:1. Introduce the concept about the routing and wavelength assignment, and the common routing and wavelength assignment algorithm. Analyze the restriction of wavelength distribution in wavelength routed optical network. Research on the adaptive routing and first fit algorithm, and put forward improvement scheme. According to this scheme, gave the description mathematically and the achieving steps.2. Compared blocking probability performance of improvement algorithm with that of original algorithm in OPNET environment. The simulation results show that the performance of improvement algorithm was better.3. Simulate the effect of available wavelength number, load and survival time on average blocking probability performance in improvement algorithm. The results show that the performance of improvement algorithm increased with the increase of available wavelength number, with the decrease of load and with the increase of survival time.4. Simulate the effect of improvement algorithm on load balance, the results show that the improvement algorithm can balance the load effectively and reduce congestion.
