As the main context of technology of precision measurement, sensor technology is the important means of scientific research. The displacement transducer is the main sensor for geometric measurement, which is used widely in production practice and scientific research. Traditional displacement transducer employs the grid structure, which depends on the high precise grids. So it improves the difficult of machining, and enhances the cost. Time-grating displacement sensor is based on the principle of "double coordinate system", converts displacement to time-lag. Time measurement is easier than displacement measurement. So it abandons the measurement method of traditional displacement sensor. With the support of the National Nature Scientific Funds, the author develops new theory and method for measurement, design new sensor—Time-grating based on variable coupling coefficient. Main context is as following:(1) comparing the measurement principle of traditional displacement sensor, summarizing the similarity and individuality, the advantage and disadvantage of the measurement method;(2) Using the principle of transformer and the modulation method of standing wave, the principle of the new sensor is proposed. Based on different modulation methods, composition in electric field or magnetic field, the new sensor is divided into two types.(3) Base on the principle of new kind of Time-grating, the magnetic path and the mechanical structure is designed with the help of simulation software.(4) The signal processing circuit is proposed, the measurement signal is processed for the displacement.(5) The experiment research is proposed. The experiment is about the stability and precision of the new sensor. Through the experiment we can optimize the mechanical structure, and improve the precision of the new sensor.In summary, the time-grating based on variable coupling coefficient is proposed, which is based on the principle of time-grating and transformer. On the one hand, it abandons the measurement method of traditional sensor; on the other hand, it optimizes the structure of time-grating, removes slip ring, and reduces the difficulty of production process. Higher precision is achieved through error correction.
