Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is made of a large number of sensor nodes in way of self-organizing and multi-hop system. Wireless Sensor Network can help people efficiently cover targets, gather information and react accordingly, especially in real-time target monitoring application. The monitoring contour extraction map is important visual information in understandable and with context. The research of monitoring contour extraction is important for wireless sensor network applications.Based on earlier research work, the problem of monitoring contour extraction is studied deeply and systematically used in VIso-Map contour extraction, distributed extraction algorithm of edge compression and triangle merger. The major contributions are listed as following.(1) The paper introduces many algorithms, which was used to generate contour maps. The new model is proposed based on virtual nodes. This model uses local data integration techniques and Tree-Based topology architecture. The analysis and simulation results demonstrate that this model significantly improves the accuracy of the contours with small increase in traffic cost.(2) The distribute compression algorithm is proposed in extract event boundary. The method is based on Delaunay triangulation and using local sensor data integration/compression technique. The experimental results show that this method significantly decreases the overhead of the network with little accuracy lose.(3) The distributed Triangle-Series Merge algorithm is proposed. This method is based on Delaunay triangulation and using Douglas-Peucker compression algorithm. The result shows that the method could significantly reduce the number of reporting nodes with little accuracy lose.
