In recent years automotive anti-collision millimeter-wave (MMW) radar system is widely used in automotive application. Based on the require of high stability and small size for the anti-collision radar front-end, a circularly polarized (CP) microstrip patch antenna has been designed concerning its good radiation characteristics like short wave length, wide band and strong penetrability in snow, rain and fog etc. The detailed work includes:1. Based on analyzing the microstrip antenna theory and circularly polarization technology, a CP microstrip patch antenna has been designed using Ansoft HFSS. The thesis has caculated the sizes of the antenna by using theory, optimized the antenna parameters with software simulated and provided the reasonable sizes and parameters.2. Based on analyzing single CP microstrip antenna, a four-element CP array antenna has been designed using sequential rotation method. The array works at 35GHz with impedance bandwidth over 17%, axial ratio bandwidth over 6% and gain over 12dB, and its azimuth angle and vertical angle reaches about 460 and 200, respectively. Based on the above analysis,64-element CP array antenna has been simulated, and the gain has reached 24dB, and its azimuth angle and vertical angle reaches about 100 and 260, respectively. The MMW CP antenna designed in this thesis has the advantages of small volume, less weight, compact structure and easy to be integrated, which can satisfy the need of anti-collision millimeter-wave (MMW) radar system.
