This paper focuses on the optimization of handover technology in LTE. The LTE technology, which is based on the 3GPP standards, has become a research hot spot in the wireless communication field for it's high data transmit rate, heterogeneous services supporting and efficient network mode. 3GPP LTE based on the technology of OFDM and MIMO is the long term evolution of 3G system, and it has made great improvement on the network structure and radio access. Handover is one of the most important aspects in mobile management.This paper summarizes the network architecture and access network structure of LTE system. In chapter three, the access process of LTE system is introduced. Cell search procedures are presented in detail and the system information is closed studied. In the end of this chapter, the relationship of cell relation list and handover is illustrated.The process of handover in LTE is described in detail. After the analysis of all of the parameters and measurement steps in handover, this paper gives the existing schemes of reducing the interruption time during handover. Then we propose a scheme based on the early random access handover. In the last chapter, a handover decision algorithm based on AHP and weight is proposed. Through the comparison between this algorithm and the algorithm based on RSRP only which are widely used, this algorithm performance lower rate of dropped calls and smaller number of handover.
