Informatization becomes the hot topic of the times; the exponential growth of data needs higher performance data storage. Even though the volume of single disk is increasing, face to the growth in an explosive way, local storage strategy already has some lack of capability. Meanwhile, some research proves clearly that the disk utilization is lower than we have thought. Along with SaaS is maturing increasingly and the times of Cloud Computing is coming, Storage as a Service (another SaaS) and Cloud Storage has an extensive application and development. Hardware redundancy, auto-fault switch, parallel expansion, load balancing and easy to administer as the symbol of cloud computing has arrived and these make it possible for large scale and cheaper storage. Virtualization is the core technology of cloud storage, including device virtualization and service virtualization. Storage virtualization is the critical step of cloud storage. At the present time, DAS, NAS, SAN and OBS are the storage architecture in main stream. In DAS (Direct-Attached Storage) architecture, storage device is connected to server using cable, I/O request transmit to storage device directly. But it has some outstanding issues, such as backup, recovery, expansion and disaster management. SAN (Storage Area Network) architecture is connected by FC (Fiber Channel) and other interconnection protocol. It is a network that can transmit data between server and storage device or between storage device and another directly. For about ten years, SAN is getting developed and becoming the practice standard in industry, but the cost of SAN is high. Files are the base of NAS (Network-Attached Storage) architecture. It adopts network technology to connect server and storage device by the network switch, and builds a private storage network for data storage. NAS pays close attention to application, users, files and file sharing. When request amount has a sharp increase in momentary, the server will be the bottleneck of the system. And this goes against magnanimity data access. OBS (Object based Storage) has the advantage of Storage Area Network and Network-Attached Storage. It can access data at a high rate of speed like Storage Area Network and has the Network-Attached Storage's data sharing ability. In our paper, we use the concept of OBS through object and metadata in virtual storage.SaaS(Software as a service) application model has been widely accepted and applied. This on-demand, multi-tenant, flexible model can be configured to provide services to users. In the proposed architecture based on virtual storage, virtual storage of SaaS application model is studied and described, and we designed and implemented a prototype system in practice.
