This paper makes a brief introduction to the website structures and the working principles of search engines at the beginning. In order to have a thorough understanding of the relationship between website structures and search engines, the author has designed and published four websites with different structures, analyzed the IIS Web logs, and studied the visit records and grasping rules of Chinese search engines of Baidu, Google, Soso, Youdao and Sogou. It is proved that website structure indeed has certain effects on the crawling of search engines and whether a web page will be captured by search engines depends to a great extent on the linking distance between this page and the homepage instead of the physical distance. Finally, the author proposes that during the construction and promotion of a website, we should design proper website structure refering to the working principles of search engines, focus on websites'search engine-friendliness, and take measures to make more web pages be captured by search engines. The author also makes suggestions that website structure should be taken into consideration when search engines assess a web page.
