Visualization Research On Semantic Web-based Teaching Resource Ontologies

Semantic Web is one of the development directions of the World Wide Web, it will integrate large information on the Internet, and support rich ways for information sharing. The characteristics of ontology which make ontology suitable as carrier of WWW information exchanging are conceptualization, explicit, formal and share. Ontology plays a key role in the composition of semantic Web. Ontology is widely used in area of Artificial Intelligence, information retrieval and knowledge engineering. Concerning teaching resources management, traditional ways are based on file management or Web. Different systems may base on different development environment. It is hard to extend functions, reuse and share information. Finding a suitable information format to raise sharing and reusing information and manage information effectively are key points to solve the problems above.Ontology technology is used in the management of teaching resources in this paper. A visualization system of semantic Web-based teaching resource ontologies-OntoVisual is developed and achieved. Main functions of OntoVisual are as follow: Information will be expressed in ontology format. In order to decrease information asynchronism, using management system to manage information centrally. It is convenient for users to operate system by using graphical interface ways. The function of concept similarity will calculate the similarity of teaching resources, and help users to realize the real connection among the resources instead of subjective judgment.Like traditional management systems, functions of adding, deleting and modifying can be found in OntoVisual. What is more, it uses ontology as information format to realize information sharing and reusing. Work efficiency will be improved deeply by using the function of multi-ontologies reading. Ontology technology is used in the area of teaching resources management and OWL language which is recommended as the semantic Web standard language is supported by the system. It also provides Chinese-English information storage, and uses visible way of information management. These research achievements play a positive significance and improving role in intelligent information management, knowledge sharing and reusing.
