The trend of the development of the future network must be that various wireless access networks of heterogeneous will be coexisting. Vertical handover techniques of network are expected to enable the integration of heterogeneous networks. The QoS of video transmission has much difference of general data in the networks of heterogeneous. Video transmission needs to be able to overcome some problems such as the high channel bit error rate, packet loss and handoff delay. How to provide a reliable QoS of video transmission in heterogeneous networks is a hot issue in the current study. The key to ensure the reliable transmission of video streams is that handover of network. But the key of handoff is to choose the right target network and time of handoff. Because the video stream data is different of general data. The importance of each packet is different. If we do not select the right handoff time, we will result in data packets received before and after can nod be decoded. In order to ensure reliable transmission of video streams and reduce the handoff delay in Heterogeneous networks.This paper will adopt the cross-layer design to research the problem of the video streaming transmission in Heterogeneous networks. It considers the information of all kinds of layers of network, and selects the right destination network. At the same time, combined with the client receives the video frame type to select the right handoff time to ensure that the reliable transmission at the process of handoff.In the first, Heterogeneous network theories of network and analysis of the feasibility and problems of handoffs is introduced, and characteristics of video transmission network also is introduced. Then, describes the video transmission based on signal strength solution and proposes a video transmission based on context-aware solution. Finally, we use NS-2 to simulate the two programs. Simulation results show that, compared to the traditional solutions based on signal strength. the proposed scheme can be reduce the delay of handoff and improve the PSNR of video stream.
