Cultivation of innovative personnel has become the common goal of highereducation all over the world. The general secretary, Hujintao has figured out:"we should always keep cultivating high quality personnel as the fundamentalstrategy and strive for building up grand innovative personnel group. Personnelare the most precious fortune for developing undertakings. Comprehensivecompetition national strength worldwide ultimately is the competition ofpersonnel, especially the innovative personnel. In the final analysis thecontinuous development and innovation of social modernization depends on theinnovative thinking and activities of innovative personnel from various aspects."Innovative thinking is the advanced shape of thinking activities. Based onthe accumulation of previous knowledge, innovative subjects find new problemsand new ways of solving problems by comprehensively using logical thinking aswell as illogical thinking like inspiration, imagination and intuition realizing thegoal of innovation. Innovative thinking is a complicated process of physicalactivities in human's mind.Extracurricular activities in science and technology takes interest and needsof students as starting point, taking students as subjects, based on the knowledgeand skill of science and technology and organized by social groups orindividuals. It is a kind of practical activity of science and technology aiming tocultivate the comprehensive ability and innovative spirit of students and it is alsoan academic activity as well as thinking development activity. Carrying outextracurricular activities in science and technology is beneficial for students toimprove their professional knowledge, inspire their innovative consciousnessand cultivate their innovative thinking.This paper studies relative theories of innovative thinking and elaborates itsmeaning from various perspectives like logistics, psychology and sociology,figuring out that innovative thinking has the characters like originality, flexibility,multidirectional comprehensiveness, foresight and practicability and it iscomposed by many types of thinking patterns like divergent thinking, convergent thinking, thinking in terms of images, intuitive thinking, and logicalthinking. It puts forward that the interior system of innovative thinking iscomposed by four phases, which is respectively raising questions, analyzingquestions, the birth of new thought, inspection and perfection. Moreover itdiscusses the meaning of extracurricular activities in science and technology andtheir specialties like taking students as center, concerning development andpractice, and leading innovation. It also elaborates that extracurricular activitiesin science and technology is constituted by three parts which is study of scienceand technology, innovation of science and technology, and practice of scienceand technology, elaborating the ways and forms of extracurricular activities inscience and technology and analyzing its effect on the development ofinnovative thinking of university students from three aspects, which is theorganization links, activity content, and summative evaluation. This paper,taking Taiyuan University of Science and Technology as a case, by makinginterview and questionnaire survey, makes a statistic analysis of thedevelopment situation and existing problems of Extracurricular activities inscience and technology in this university and puts forward views likestrengthening publicity of the activity and setting up the innovationconsciousness of students, building foundation of extracurricular activities inscience and technology, perfecting this system, and taking innovation as thecenter enriching the content and ways of extracurricular activities in science andtechnology. In addition it raises the suggestion of constructing high qualityfaculty and carrying out ways of developing the extracurricular activities inscience and technology beneficial for developing the innovative thinking ofuniversity students.
