| There is no doubt that vocabulary is the foundation of language study. Mastering a large numberof vocabulary is the basis of smooth language communication in terms of listening, speaking, reading andwriting. That's to say, vocabulary learning plays a key role in the process of language acquisition. However,most of the English vocabulary teachings in China are time-consuming and ineffective. The burden of thesenior high school students' is heavy and the teachers don't have enough class time for vocabulary teaching.As a result, it has become very important and necessary to find a high-effective approach of vocabularyteaching to solve this problem.The Lexical Chunk Approach is a new language teaching approach which has aroused wideattention in recent years. The Lexical Chunk Approach considers grammar and vocabulary as twocomponents of a language system. Vocabulary and grammar are getting more and more closely. It is thenew trend of modern linguistic research. Based on the understanding and research of the Lexical ChunkApproach, the author believes that this approach is benefit for the students' English study. Based upon theaims of this study, two questions are proposed:1. Do students improve their proficiency in English with thehelp of lexical chunks?2. What are requirements for the teachers in the process of applying the LexicalChunk Approach in classroom?The author conducts a teaching experiment which lasts four months in her two classes to testifythe effect of the Lexical Chunk Approach. The experiment is done from2011,9to2012,1. The participantsof the experiment are Grade One in Jiaozuo No. One Senior High School. The author carries out a pre-testto the students before the experiment. The result of the test shows that the students' English is in the samelevel. Class3is chosen to be the experiment class in which the Lexical Chunk Approach is applied in thefollowing semester. After the experiment, the data of the experiment is analyzed by SPSS, the StatisticalPackage for Social Science. According to the analysis of the result, the author convinces that the LexicalChunk Approach helps to promote English vocabulary study. |
