Mind mapping is a visual tool for the knowledge representing and also an approach which embodies divergent thinking. Since mind mapping approach and the concept based on the thinking visualization were introduced into the field of education, it has brought a positive effect upon teaching and education. It has been an important tool in developing and improving pupils'thinking quality, as well as in stimulating and guiding pupils'creative thinking. On the other hand, English words are the basis of learning English, also the key to learning English well. However, the difficulty of memorizing English words has already become the main obstacle to learning English. So, this thesis attempts to apply mind mapping to help memorize English words. By designing the English words mapping with cognitive habits of pupil, this thesis explores the effectiveness of using mind mapping to promote English words memory in pupils in practice.The main body of the paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter aims to provide a clear introduction to the background of the action research, purpose of the research and significance of the research.In the second chapter, the thesis has reviewed the current researches of mind mapping and concept mapping at home and abroad, and found the junction of them with English words memory. The thesis has also defined some related key concepts, such as Mind mapping, concept mapping, word, memory and English word mapping. Through careful analysis of literature, the thesis has understood deeply the area of this research and theoretically explained the feasibility of the integration between the mind mapping and English words.In the third chapter, the thesis has explored a set of norms and methods of English word mapping designing, and accumulated rich and detailed case resources about the applying of English word mapping in class. According to the structure of English word mapping and the links between English words in the process of drawing word mapping, we have summed up five kinds of English word mapping in structure and three kinds of English word mapping in content, which can help pupils to draw the English word mapping.In the fourth chapter, experimental result has showed the effectiveness of using mind mapping in promoting English words memory of pupils, used descriptive statistics methods, SPSS for Windows statistical software and Excel office software to process the data, and the results showed:1.Mind mapping can improve the correct rate of word's spelling and interpreting.2.Mind mapping can increase the number of the word's acquiring and recalling.3.The English word mapping can improve pupils'learning habit, and increase pupils'interests in learning English words.In the fifth chapter, the thesis has summed up the study and looked forward to the further research.
